League Statement:

Dedication and commitment to the provision of junior football at grass roots level of the game has finally reaped its rewards to the Shropshire Junior Football League (SJFL).  The Football Association in  acknowledging the excellent work carried out by willing volunteers of the League has recognised this achievement by awarding the SJFL the FA Charter Standard League Accreditation.  This is the first such award to be made by The FA to any affiliated League in the country and one of only 50 such League awards to be presented.  This is a very proud day, not only for the SJFL, but also for football in Shropshire.  The main objective of the League is to provide a safe and friendly environment for all to play and enjoy football.  Over the last 8 seasons the League and member clubs have worked tirelessly with the Shropshire FA Development Office to improve the coaching, education and safeguarding of children in football.  To this end all 186 teams have qualified FA coaches to supervise the teams at league games and training and all 27 member clubs hold The FA Charter Standard club award.  The CS club award covers coaching, safeguarding and best practice, CRB checks, emergency sport aid and club code of conducts.  It is a requirement of the League's rules that all clubs hold the FA CS award or are working towards this achievement. They also agree to abide by a Code of Conduct that not only includes their players but also team managers, coaches, club officials, parents and their supporters. The League is sponsored by Turner Peachey (Chartered Accountants) and they support and promote good sportsmanship and behaviour through the 'Fairplay'  scheme which all teams enter and receive recognition for their achievements at the end of each season at the League's Presentation Day - along with the League winners/runners up.  Without the voluntary hard work and commitment of the officers of the League the SJFL would not find itself in the position it is today. When we look back at the first FA CS club award in 2001, selected from all Leagues across Shropshire and presented to Baschurch Juniors, members of the SJFL, the League  realised that  this was the best road to follow to deliver and develop the best opportunities for all children to play and enjoy football, whatever their level of ability.
